Throughout the recent presidential campaign, much was made of Michael D. Higgins's 70 years of age. It struck me that it was 1967 – The Summer of Love - when Mr Higgins was my age. Taking my cue from the Arts and Crafts-inspired poster design of this era (as reflected in Higgins's much-worn tie), I reclaimed an election poster as symbol of the revolutionary spirit of that time by using symbols from Michael D. Higgins's political and intellectual life.
The poster is about a rebel becoming part of the establishment. This is by no means a bad thing, but perhaps it is the destiny for all once-revolutionary ideas.
